Abstract
There is no existing automated disaster management system in the Philippines despite the fact that it is a disaster-prone country, lying on the typhoon belt of Western Pacific and Pacific Ring of Fire. What is currently available is only an emergency response resource database that is being used by the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) in its response mobilization during a disaster. NDCC also maintains a website that only provides weather-related advisories and information on the effects of previous disasters. The Philippine Disaster Management Information System (PDMIS) was developed in order to provide a dynamic portal which serves as a repository of different disaster-related information from different warning agencies and disaster coordinating councils. It provides a facility that would record the effects of disasters in the country. Furthermore, the system is capable of producing reports in tabular and graphical formats that are valuable in providing relief assistance and rehabilitation for people and areas affected by disaster. The system also handles a comprehensive directory of disaster coordinating council managers as well as an inventory of available response resources throughout the country, which can be used during disaster mitigation or management activities.
