Abstract
The study aimed to find out what are the factors that influence the adoption of Research and Development (R&D) winning technologies. Specifically, the objectives of the study were to: 1) determine how the technology/information about the technology was disseminated; 2) identify the characteristics of the adopters of the technology; and 3) find out how the adopters utilized the technologies. One hundred farmers were randomly selected from a small barangay in Compostela Valley Province. A 30-item multiple-choice, self-administered questionnaire was administered to them. It contained information that measured the adaptability and sustainability of two R&D winning technologies. Other questions that needed clarifications were followed up by a brief one-on-one interview with the respondents. Data were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages to identify the occurrence of technology utilization at present. The socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the respondents were also analyzed. Results showed that a great majority of the respondents were not familiar with the two technologies. In spite of this, they were still interested to learn the award-winning technologies specifically, the technology on Space Cardaba Plants at 4x4m for Optimum Yield to improve their knowledge and income. The majority of them wanted to learn the technology through training and seminars. They wanted to be taught by experts and scientists and through radio programs. On the other hand, farmers are not very much interested on the technology “Age of Harvesting Laak Bamboos in Flatland and Hilly Side” because they deemed it would not help them improve their income. However, to improve the two technologies and maximize its potentials, majority of the respondents suggested that they be provided with reading materials such as brochures and pamphlets. Farmers also suggested having seminars and training on-farm technologies, and programs aired over the radio every day. They also suggested sending experts to teach on farm technologies and practices through field demonstrations.
