dc.description.abstract The study identified the effects of a skit presentation on the information retention of students, specifically about the information retained, characteristics of the skit, and the skit's effect on their message retention. Data were gathered from 24 purposely sampled sophomore students of the BA Communication program of the Lyceum Institute of Technology in Calamba City. These respondents were given a questionnaire after hearing a five-minute skit presentation about the factors that affected message retention on September 21, 2004. Frequencies and percentages were used to analyze the data. According to the respondents, clear enactment (voice and action) of the information (58%) and its repetition (33%), as well as the skit's ability to draw out their empathy (50%) were the major factors that helped them retain information. The skit presentation's characteristics that aided them in retaining information were its catchiness mentioned by half (50%) and closeness to reality (42%). The skit presentation had a generally positive effect in aiding information retention. More respondents said the skit presentation made topics simply (33%) and understandable (20%). It also enabled the students to relate the topics to their personal lives (21%), encouraged students to focus their attention on the topic (13%), and it caught everyone's attention (13%).
