Abstract
An Online Student Information System and Research Database collectively called as SAIT Portal was developed for San Agustin Institute of Technology. The Student Information System includes the computerized registration of Elementary and high school students to their classes which lessens the time of the registration process and allows faculty members to download their respective class lists from the system and encode the grades online. Furthermore, students are given access to view their school profile with their academic records online for preference purposes which in turn they can show to their parents and guardian anytime provided that they have Internet access. Moreover, the Online Research Database can help SAIT’s students and teachers who do research to make their works available on the web. Researchers are given to access to the Portal where they can upload the abstract or summary of their research works. A set of Reviews are assigned by SAIT who may review the uploaded papers to ensure that only good quality research is made available to the public via their Website. This can help encourage more research works to be done in SAIT and at the same time increase their research work quality. Searching the database can be done through the SAIT Website which was also developed as part of the project. The development process had four major phases: Inception, Elaboration, Construction, and Transition. Inception was the planning stage followed by elaboration which included analysis and design. The construction phase was where the development of the system took place followed by the transition phases which included implementation, testing, and evaluation. MySQL was used for the database, and a combination of HTML, JavaScript and PHP for the development of the research database and student information system. WordPress, a free and open-source content managing system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL was also used for the website which is also part of the project. The results of the user testing and assessment indicated that the system still has room for improvements in terms of some technical considerations like the system’s response time considering that it is online showed that the respondents’ ratings were within the range of agreeable to extremely agreeable in terms of how satisfactory the output of the project is using a 5-level Likert scale in determining the beneficial impact of the system to the institution.
