Abstract
Hundred Islands National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines, attracting thousands of visitors every year. However, the rapid growth of tourism in the area has led to environmental degradation, cultural displacement, and economic inequality. This thesis examines the balance between economic development and environmental protection in sustainable tourism in Hundred Islands National Park, a popular tourist destination in the Philippines. The study aims to identify the park's main sustainability challenges, analyze the current tourism management practices, and propose strategies for enhancing sustainable tourism. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative research methods, the study found that while tourism in the park has brought economic benefits to the region, it has also caused negative environmental impacts such as pollution, habitat destruction, and biodiversity loss. The study also revealed that the park's current tourism management practices are inadequate in addressing these challenges and that there is a need for a more integrated and participatory approach that involves local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders. To address these challenges, the study suggests strategies like ecotourism, community-based tourism, and sustainable indicators to enhance sustainable tourism in HINP. It emphasizes the need for robust policies, contributing to knowledge on sustainable tourism in developing countries with practical recommendations for HINP and similar places.
