Abstract
The project entitled “E-Payroll: A web-based Payroll Information System for Bicol University” is geared toward the development of such a system. Bicol University has been longing for establishing an information system for their campuses. This project development study will serve as the start of the realization of one of their IT visions. This study mainly focuses on the payroll system, since it is one of the main problems of the university. There are currently 6 payroll processing clusters (or center) in the university. Each cluster is performing manual payroll processing which leads to inefficient, non-standardized, and erroneous results. E-Payroll has been developed to address those problems by providing end-users with these main features: 1. Automatically computing the GROSS PAY, DEDUCTIONS, and NET PAY. 2. Automatically generating the Payroll Register, Payroll Voucher, and Payslip. 3. Allow an instant generation of monthly remittances such as: Withholding TAX, GSIS, PhilHealth, PAG-IBIG, LOANS, etc. The system was developed using PHP MySQL hosted on a web server. It follows an Iterative software development method that combines a series of development phases and prototyping, Data-entry, processing, and reporting are the nature of this web-application. The software does not depend on 3rd party library/frameworks except for FPDF for generating PDF reports. A system evaluation was conducted in order to make sure that the problem was successfully addressed. The proponent had made an assessment and evaluation based on the questionnaire. E-Payroll is the answer to the payroll processing needs of the university by making it more cost efficient and thus, it minimizes the hiring of more staff. End-users and clienteles are confident as their tasks are automated, their data are secured, and payroll services are rendered on time.
