Modeling a Sustainable Digital Information Preservation System of Mediated Communications in Organizations

Abstract

The study aims to develop a model that reflects a sustainable digital information preservation system of the mediated communication processes in organizations. The current research argues that the system of digital information preservation in an organization can become sustainable if such a process is practiced within a sustainable digital environment. To be able to achieve such a condition, the study proposes the development of a communication-based model that integrates all components and dimensions necessary for the organization to become digitally sustainable. In the study, the actual mediated communication system of the participating organization was analyzed. Through a quantitative survey, the researcher was able to identify the fundamental elements and dimensions that are deemed essential in the development of the proposed model. The study claims that these elements and dimensions are capable of modeling a more sustainable type of digital information preservation system. To achieve the goals of the study, two research approaches were utilized: an organizational case study and modeling. An entire department of a specific university participated in the data gathering with a total of 75 teachers taking the online survey. A descriptive statistical analysis of the survey questions was conducted to highlight the most frequent responses related to the identification of the essential components and variables that will be used for the proposed model. The output of the study is a two-layered model with integrated elements and dimensions that were strategically designed to promote a more sustainable system of digital information preservation.
