Abstract
Online bookselling had been vibrant for years. However, for a private individual or small business, there were some challenges. Among them were restrictions put on sellers of used books, while major websites only sold new books. Although classified ads websites were an alternative, book ads often got buried under those websites’ numerous categories.
The proposed solution to tackle these challenges was the website called The Booksale, which aimed to become the main classified ads website for books. Among its objectives were to provide a new platform for online bookselling, allow users to post as many afs as they want for free, and be a dedicated ads site for books.
During research, the Information System Theory utilized was Micahel Porter’s Differentiation Focus under Competitive Advantage. Based on The Booksales’ focus on books, it allowed an increased competitive advantage for the booksellers. For the development of the website, the software development life cycle approach used was the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method.
Several clients were approached who provided responses for a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) Analysis. To assess the success of the project, the clients also gave feedback for the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and System Usability Scale (SUS) survey. based on these results, it was concluded that the project achieved its objectives.
When fully implemented, this project could open opportunities for online booksellers, especially private individuals and small businesses. With nothing else like it today, it contributed to the current information Systems knowledge.
