Faces and Phases of Poverty in Sta. Maria, Laguna: An Interrogation of Interpersonal, Intergenerational Communication

Abstract

This study aims to highlight how family members communicate their own perceptions of being poor through conducting interviews of different families from different generations. This study presents how poverty, being a highly sensitive and subjective concept, is communicated verbally from parents to their children. This study presents similarities and differences of the views about poverty from three generations – grandparents, parents and children. Based from the narratives about poverty from different generations, the study describes how similar or different their views are with the standards of poverty in relation to poverty incidence in the country. Furthermore, this study explores their stories and their experiences including the pandemic affect and the perception of the children and or succeeding generations of the concept of poverty.
